Is the education Biblical, God-honoring, and most importantly grounded in Truth?

         Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. We must remember that the Fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom and Knowledge. Our education should have an element of Bible Study, worship of God, and moral teaching based on the Bible. As a homeschooled young man who also did distance learning in a Christian school and was dual enrolled as a 17-year-old senior in a secular local community college, I have been shocked at the differences between Christian education and secular. Secular education has no moral bounds—the text books and required audios can flaunt image boarding on pornography, conversations of the pleasures of homosexual fantasies, and sexual “jokes” without bounds. Without the Bible, there is no standard to measure one’s conduct or teaching by and almost anything goes.

         During my years being homeschooled and really learning to teach myself and study, I came to the conviction of my textbooks: that God is involved in our world. God is the one who has ordered world events for His purpose and the furtherance of the Gospel—it is as plain as day if you study the true history. God’s hand is woven throughout His creation in all the sciences and mankind should thank Him that we have been given the privilege of being able to study and stand in awe of His wonder as well as take dominion of the earth and create so many technological instruments to more efficiently manage our labors. And lastly, but certainly not least, the Bible is the perfect source of truth for education, life management, understanding one’s relationship with God, relationships, understanding, wisdom, truth, love, happiness, peace, joy, contentment, business, and so much more! The Bible is the Source of Truth! May we live as the Puritan and Pilgrim ancestors of our past by doing as they did: applying the Scriptures to every aspect of our lives, government, and education.

    Be careful what type of worldview and education you are buying at a college. Is it wise to fund a humanistic institution? Is it moral to fund the education of abortion advocates? What about the indoctrination of evolutionism, feminism, socialism, and relativism?

Institutions that are Cost Effective and Christian Oriented

    Are there any organizations out there that are low cost and provide a great education? I know of a few that are solid and Biblical. Liberty Online University, CollegePlus and Seminary Extension.

 

    College Plust is one of the greatest options for low cost degree seekers. It is focused on testing out of general ed, you get your very own life coach, are encouaged to discover your live purpose and begin living it out, and earn your Bachelors degree at your own pace--which is comfortably done for many students in 2 years for an average cost of $15-16,000.      Liberty University has a history of standing for Biblical Truth uncompromisingly and that is something that they continue to do. Their degrees are typically going to run around $30,000 but will incorporate Biblical studies and a Christian worldview. They are also well known for firmly holding to the literal 6-day Creation describd in Genesis 1--this is an area that many universities at best compromise on, but most are completely silent about or even condemn.       Seminary Extension is a Sourthen Baptist ministry program which allows lay ministers, women's ministry leaders, and full-time pastors to earn a certificates for as low at $500-700 and diplomas around $2500. College is a Business

Colleges are businesses today. They want you to come to their school largely because they have bills to pay. Your tuition funds a lot of what they do. Yes, some schools pride themselves on strict requirements, but, I ask you, why do so many colleges try to market themselves? Simply put, college is a business. They are trying to sell you on their product: the education that they offer.

 

       In light of this understanding, getting accepted does not mean as much. Yes, perhaps a big name school like Harvard or Yale may mean something simply because of what our culture equates them with. However, there is much more than meets the eye. But even schools like Harvard and Yale are not that glamorous—because the product they are selling is largely liberal and unbiblical.

Robert Green's 48 Laws

   Robert Greene’s “48 Laws” are very repulsive to me. He is not seeking to be a good communicator through these laws but to simply play his cards right and gear the noise and environment to get his agenda across. His laws have dangerous implications because they teach how to cleverly put a facade on in one’s communication. The goal of being ethical and moral in interpersonal communication is to be real and sincere with people, to treat them as you would want to be treated. For the sake of space, I will only address two of Greene’s laws: 3 and 32.

     Law 3 says “conceal your intentions.” Greene proposes that by concealing your true intentions you can keep others constantly guessing what you are up to and thus keep them from building any good defenses against you. I disagree with this law because it is immoral and unethical to simply try to keep people beating around the bush so they cannot respond to what you are truly saying. In my life, I have struggled with one individual who was my leader because he always seemed to conceal his true intentions and not really lead the group. He was in an important position that was supposed to involve teaching and mentoring, but he did not even appear to try. He would shift directions so fast that people of all ages got frustrated. He was “the leader” but did not really have any followers because of his mysteriousness.

      Law 32 says “play to people’s fantasies.” Greene continues to explain this law as one that avoids truth because people view it as “ugly and unpleasant.” Instead, he encourages that one should cater to people’s passions and dreams to gain a large following. This one is simply evil. Deny truth to win a following! Truth is essential. Without truth, there will be no freedom, growth, or lasting results. Jesus said that He was “the way, the TRUTH, and the life” (John 14:6, KJV). In addition, Jesus taught that “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:31-32, KJV). It may seem foolish, it may seem crazy, but Jesus Christ changes people. When a person truly comes to Him and becomes His disciple, then he will be transformed by Jesus—the Truth—and he will be truly free. Many men and women have been freed from the chains of a past filled with crime, drugs, and abuse because of Jesus Christ. It may seem foolish that people find freedom in someone that lived 2,000 years ago, but it is true. In prison rehabilitation programs, Bible-based programs continue to have the largest success rate. Why? Because there is such a thing as truth and its foundation is Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:20, 1 Corinthians 3:10-14). Jesus did not lie to people. He taught truth and many times was even very blunt. His following was not build by manipulation, but by communicating honestly and sincerely. Any following that is built by deceptive practices is inherently evil. And just because a communicator deals honestly and sincerely with his audience does not mean that his message is true; however, it does mean that he has ethically “built” his following.

The “MEDIA”! Good or BAD?

    The people of the world want truth delivered to them through the “media” that they watch, listen to, and read. This can be majorly grouped as GOOD or BAD. Indeed, the “media”, in many cases, has used fear tactics to control people and cause them to live in constant alertness. Indeed, the “media” has strayed from its original purpose which consisted of presenting the “news” on a truthful and Christian manner.

   The positives of the “media” include the following: important “news” can be made known to the vast majority of people and can influence the world’s opinion rather easily if one does not filter what he sees, hears, and reads.

    However, a few negative attributes have been ascribed to the “media” in the last century or so. Not to group all the “media” in the same ship, but many “reporters” use fear tactics such as “exaggeration of the truth” and “double-sided speech” (lying) to scare their realm of influence in too believing their opinion rather than the truth which they choose not to search out. Many a person has become a brainwashed creature that blindly follows the monstrous leader of the common “media.” The “media” is appalling by the type of fear and control that it possesses and instills in its listeners, readers, and viewers.

   People can retaliate against the affects the “media” have on them. One can pray that God heals the brainwashed and deceived areas of our mind that the “media” has instilled in us. Another way is to replace some if the time that one spends on the “media” and replacing it with Bible reading and prayer. Also pray that God will change the hearts of the “media” drones and broadcasters. Surely God can intervene for His people, if it is His will, and cause the truth to be known.

  In conclusion, the “media,” for the most part, has fallen from its original purpose and we must combat it for it is mostly corrupt and BAD. Make the truth known to those you converse with and most importantly spread Christ. Since He is the TRUTH He should be the focus of Christian “media” workers. Therefore if the people of God ban together and spread the Gospel we are doing the best that we can to change the “media” by planting God.

The danger of Compromising Biblical worldview

     Again I must state that your worldview must be rooted in God’s Word (Matthew 7:24-27). It must be only built upon the foundation of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 3:11—21).

  Some think that a Christian Worldview is a belief in a literal 6 day Creation, standing against evolution, rejecting atheism’s claims, belief in the Fall of man, etc… those things are important and are valuable stances taken because of possessing a Biblical worldview, but the central theme of a Biblical worldview must be based on is Jesus Christ—He is the Word and His Truth is enduring. Our lives should be lived growing closer to Him, sharing the Good News of His Redemption at the Cross and Following His Words in every area of our life (yes, even voting and abortion)!

Read: 1Corinthians 3.   This passage declares our worldview focal point: Jesus Christ.

Worldview

Root your worldview in Christ, otherwise the foundation won’t last.

The foundation must be Christ (Matthew 7:24-27). The reality of living like Christ is following the guidance of the Holy Spirit, your Teacher and Guide, and keeping Christ’s cross at the center of your life? Who would He vote for (His Word makes it pretty clear)? Are my closest friends like Christ and are they influencing me to be conformed to Christ or to follow the passing pleasures of this world? How would Christ honor her on this courtship outing?

A Christian’s worldview should be rooted in the Scriptures—the very character of Christ!—not on opinions.

Jesus spoke out and acted in order to help a person . . . . . to rebuke sin . . . . . yet He loved all. How do you need to adjust your worldview, so that you can be more like Christ? Follow His Spirits’ leading—He will guide you (John 14 & 16).

Real men Gotta be tough—Biblical, right?

  Well . . . .  you’re gonna need to define tough. A real man isn’t just tough. Rather, he models Jesus Christ: he lives his life as an example to those who follow him, his family and friends know what he really is and what he really stands for because he lives out his faith. A real man rules his household by example, by servant leadership. A real man takes responsibility for his actions and admits when he messes up or is wrong.

 Believe me that being the type of man I’m describing  is tough, but it earns you more respect from those under your leadership. A real man is a genuine person, and he has a low estimate of himself. He gives his best, but knows he is not perfect. He flees from pride and runs into the arms of Jesus. He is truly humble. True humility is strong, it is determined, it is resolute, yet compassionate,  it is uncompromising and lovingly firm. Study it out, what is true humility and what is true manhood? (Hint: the Bible contains the answers)

 

Are you are real man?

Do you know any real men?

. . .

I know the ultimate MAN –

Jesus.

Thought 250: Mrs. Thompson and Literature from Ryan's devotional book series Thoughts

Mrs. Thompson and Literature

   Mrs. Thompson was one of my High School DVD teachers. I remember watching the literature lectures that she gave and the continual reminder she gave us to learn from what we read. As we read The Scarlet Letter, I learned about the danger of hidden sin and how it eats a person up. As we read Silas Marner I again learned of the danger of secret sin and the selfish pride of Mr. Godfrey. And all through the various poems, short stories, and prose selections that were also required reading; I remember Mrs. Thompson giving us Scripture references to jot down in the margin while she faithfully showed us the good and bad in a poem—the false philosophies and the true.

   Mrs. Thompson was not a perfect teacher, no human save Jesus was, but she did give it her all. She continued to be faithful and instruct the High Schoolers under her care to pay attention to the Word of God and to really analyze literature through a Biblical lens. I am very thankful for what she taught me.
