Psalms
The Psalms
are an amazing testimony to a prayer life. Praises, early mornings, late nights,
confusion, valleys, and mountaintops are all described in the Psalms. Even
though around half of the Psalms were written by David, we find that other men
also wrote prayers and praises to God, among a few of the other authors are the
notable Asaph and Solomon.
David
is ‘dirt honest’ with God. He tells God when he feels stabbed in the back by
his Creator. David tells God when he is doubting, when he is afraid of all his
enemies, and all the times that circumstances just don’t appear to line up with
God’s goodness. Yet David also proclaimed his praises, his thankfulness, his
reliance upon his Creator and the testimony that nature attributes to God.
David wasn’t perfect, he had a lot of problems;
yet God says that David was a man after God’s own heart. We find out what kind
of soul this man had and how his heart was changed from wickedness to hungering
for the law of the Lord. Still, David had problems… he had a lot of wives,
hundreds in fact. His “love” for a pretty woman and sex with her almost cost
him his eternal residence.
There’s a lot to learn in the book of Psalms,
so why not try it out and read it?
