Mis-Snipped Hair

Mis-Snipped Hair

Witnessing is not about some fancy plan or just knowing some questions to ask. Witnessing at its heart is simply sharing Christ with others. Sometimes it may mean a bold and persistent message of the cross, sin, and the reality of Hell. Other times it may mean loving kindness and compassion that gently leads a soul to Christ. One is not better than the other, for both are in Scripture and neither is given preference. The following short illustration came to my mind while in a Bible Study. May you be spurred on!

There was a woman, a Christian, who went to have her hair cut at the salon. As she was chatting with the young lady cutting her hair, the Holy Spirit prodded the woman to share Christ. She did. And as she explained the Gospel and all that Jesus suffered and endured so that we could have fellowship with God, the young lady began to cry. Tears streamed down her face as she listened and cut the woman’s hair. As the young lady was making her last cut, she was overwhelmed by the love of Christ and made a mis-snip on the woman’s hair.

The young lady fell to her knees, overwhelmed and the Christian woman led her to Christ and then just held her in her arms for a good long while. After some time, the young lady was not longer sorrowful (….) but had the joy of the Lord radiating from her.

As the woman paid for her haircut, the young lady gasped and apologized for the prominent mis-snip that she made. The woman responded, “I does not matter, this mis-snip represents you—a soul that has come to know the Lord. I will proudly carry it with me for the short time that it will be there.”

Mis-snipped hair can represent a lot.

We must be an Example

We must be an Example

God calls us to be an example. Young adults, I believe that you have a special opportunity to be such an example. Check out this verse: “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity (1 Timothy 4:12 KJV).” This verse lays out The Timothy Commission—

To portray the proper example we must have proper character, and character is formed by our personal habits.

Questions and Thoughts

P Are you making the right choices?

P Do you have the right kind of habits?

We must be an Example

We must be an Example

God calls us, dear readers, to be an example to other Believers and young adults; I believe that you have a special opportunity in a day when little is expected of you to be such an example! Check out this verse: “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12 KJV). The NKJV says “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” This verse lays out The Timothy Commission—setting an example for all believers.

To portray the proper example we Must have proper character, and character is formed by our personal habits.

Thought 252: Submissiveness from Ryan's devotional book series Thoughts

Thought 252

Submissiveness

Read Ephesians 5:21-6:9

Submission is commanded by God. But God does not only tell women to be submissive to their husbands: children are to be submissive to their parents, slaves to their masters, masters to the Master (Jesus) and husbands to Christ. One further note on husbands, if a husband is truly living out this passage of Scripture, he is to live in such a manner that he follows the sacrificial example of Jesus which includes be willing to lay down his life for his wife, to cherish her, and to wash her in the water of the Word.

“Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.”  1 Peter 5:5 KJV (emphasis added)

Daily Devotion from Ryan Marks book Thoughts

Day 137

Role Model

What kind of example do you display? Do people follow you for who you really are or as somebody you pretend to be? If people follow you, do you lead a rebellious riot or a united Christian body? Do you encourage others to obey authority, God, and the rules by your actions (that is, the fruit of your life)?

In my work with young men, I have experienced and had to deal with “rebels.” You see, when you are a young man and you “outrank” some other young men who are your friends, you will probably encounter some difficulties as you pursue trying to mentor and teach them. One thing I have taken note of is that there is usually a ring leader who stirs up the people. Authority should be respected because it is all chosen by God (Rom. 13:1-7); therefore, it should only be opposed if it is directly going against the Word of God. For example, I do not care what the government says about abortion; whether they declare it legal or illegal, I know that God is against it. However, when authority is opposed just because someone doesn’t like what they’re doing, it’s just have rebellion. What I am saying is without Biblical grounds, we shouldn’t oppose authority.

Be an example. more people than you know are watching you, trust me. Do your best to live an example, because your life bears the fruit of reputation. What kind of Biblical reputation do you want? “Hang around” people that model it and search the Scripture for it.
