The Importance of a Name

The Importance of a Name

Samson’s name means—“there is a second chance”

Noah means “repose, consolation”

Gideon means “he that bruise or breaks, a destroyer”

Nehemiah means “consolation, repentance of the Lord”

Nimrod means “rebellion”

Daniel means “God is my judge”

David means “Beloved”

Each of those men lived up to their names.

Because men live up to their names, God changed some men’s names:

Jacob “trickster or deceiver” to Israel “who prevails with God” Not independently, but in the Lord.

Saul “demanded, lent, ditch, or death” to Paul “small, little.” Paul considered himself very little. He was humble. His entire identity rested in the Lord Jesus Christ who had called him and redeemed him from his past.

What does your name mean? A few I’ve researched are listed below:

Vincent means “to conquer”

Brian means “high, noble”

Robert means “bright, shining”

Ryan means “kingly”

Kenneth means “handsome, born of fire”
