The
overseer is to be one who honors his marriage, parents his children in the fear
and admonition of the Lord, who is faithful to the Scriptures, who does not love money, who is not easily angered,
who is hospitable, who is able to teach, and who has a good reputation with
outsiders. God has spelled out the needs for overseers—they aren’t degrees,
seminary, or most of what the world looks at as the way to success. They are
character and basic character qualities. God’s Word is a sufficient standard.
