The acid test of ministry is not
your calling from God, it is not your confirmation by the church, and it isn’t
your giftedness. The acid test of one’s ministry is character. All the
qualifications in Titus and Timothy point to character. Does one govern his
household well? Does he have a proper attitude toward money and material
things? Does he honor his marriage covenant? Is he faithful to the Word?
Character—who you are is the acid test of ministry. You may be able to preach
well, write well, administer well, appear well…but if you do not back up what
you preach by who you are IN Christ, then your ministry will dissolve the acid
of the world’s searching eye.
