Music

The type of music you listen to impacts your spirit. Music can uplift and encourage you or it tear you down and depress you. You can praise God with music or you can worship human ideals, the body, or perverted interests with music. You can choose to guard your ears or you can listen to anything. Either way, you have a choice to make. No one can force you not to listen to a certain type of music. The point is do you believe that music impacts you? Do you live like it does? Do you think that it can arouse emotions that should not be aroused?

What about the rebellious spirit in the youth of America? A lot of songs from famous young singers are about independence, and the other bulk of their songs are about “love” and sex. Should these things be in the minds of the young people of America? Should they be saturating themselves with such worldly ideals? They will have to make the choice for themselves: whether to guard themselves or listen to anything . . . . and you have a choice as well. What type of music will you feed your soul with? What type of music do you feed your soul with?. . . .

“Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipes and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?" Daniel 3:15 NIV

“All these men were under the supervision of their fathers for the music of the temple of the LORD, with cymbals, lyres and harps, for the ministry at the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun and Heman were under the supervision of the king.” 1 Chronicles 25:6 NIV

“Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.” Psalm 33:1-3 NIV

"And now their sons mock me in song; I have become a byword among them.” Job 30:9 NIV

”And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps.” Revelation 14:2 NIV

“Let our lord command his servants here to search for someone who can play the harp. He will play when the evil spirit from God comes upon you, and you will feel better.”  So Saul said to his attendants, “Find someone who plays well and bring him to me.” One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the harp. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the Lord is with him.” Then Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, “Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.” So Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine and a young goat and sent them with his son David to Saul. David came to Saul and entered his service. Saul liked him very much, and David became one of his armor-bearers. Then Saul sent word to Jesse, saying, “Allow David to remain in my service, for I am pleased with him.” Whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would take his harp and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him.” 1 Samuel 16:16-23 NIV
