The Reason
Why we Study and Teach
Christ’s
Commands and Teachings
“Then
the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had
appointed them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some
doubted. 18 And
Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven
and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:
and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Matt
28:16-20 (KJV)
As we begin this study of the Commands and
Teachings of Jesus, we need to bear in mind that Jesus said, not only to Go
(evangelism) but to stay long enough to teach (disciple) those who come to
Christ through our witness of the Gospel. This took as little as a year or less
with Paul at times in his missionary journeys. However, we must also remember
that obedience to the Lord’s commands is evidence of our love or lack of love
for Him. Jesus said,
“If
ye love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15 (KJV)
