Compilation
of Important Scriptures on Ministry (not comprehensive)
In this chapter, please read these
Scriptures slowly—may they speak to your heart and exhort (encourage and
challenge and warn) you.
And whatsoever ye do, do it
heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 24 Knowing that of the Lord ye
shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. 25 But
he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there
is no respect of persons.
Col 3:23-25 (KJV)
Keep thee far from a false
matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify
the wicked. 8 And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth
the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous. 9 Also thou
shalt not oppress a stranger: for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye
were strangers in the land of Egypt.
Ex 23:7-9 (KJV)
If thy presence go not with me,
carry us not up hence.
Ex 33:15 (KJV)
A good name is better
than precious ointment
Eccl 7:1 (KJV)
It is better to go to the house of
mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of
all men; and the living will lay it to his heart. 3 Sorrow is
better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made
better.
Eccl 7:2-3 (KJV)
Surely oppression maketh a wise man
mad; and a gift destroyeth the heart.
Eccl 7:7 (KJV)
In the day of prosperity be joyful,
but in the day of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against
the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.
Eccl 7:14 (KJV)
It is good that thou
shouldest take hold of this; yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for
he that feareth God shall come forth of them all.
Eccl 7:18 (KJV)
Am I not an apostle? am I not free?
have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord? 2 If
I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of
mine apostleship are ye in the Lord. 3 Mine answer to them that do
examine me is this, 4 Have we not power to eat and to drink? 5 Have
we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as
the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas? 6 Or I only and Barnabas,
have not we power to forbear working? 7 Who goeth a warfare any
time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit
thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? 8 Say
I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? 9 For
it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox
that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? 10 Or
saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this
is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that
thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. 11 If we have
sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap
your carnal things? 12 If others be partakers of this power
over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power;
but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ. 13 Do
ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things
of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? 14 Even
so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the
gospel.
15 But I have used none of these things: neither
have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were
better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void. 16 For
though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid
upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel! 17 For if
I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a
dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me. 18 What is
my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the
gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
1 Cor 9:1-18 (KJV)
For I determined not to know any
thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I was
with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my
speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but
in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith
should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
1 Cor 2:2-5 (KJV)
But the Comforter, which is
the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all
things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto
you. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as
the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let
it be afraid.
John 14:26-27 (KJV)
And he gave some, apostles; and some,
prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For
the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of
the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith,
and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of
the stature of the fulness of Christ
Eph 4:11-13 (KJV)
And he sought God in the days of
Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he
sought the Lord, God made him to prosper.
2 Chron 26:5 (KJV)
But when he was strong, his heart was
lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the Lord his
God, and went into the temple of the Lord to burn incense upon the altar of
incense. 17 And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him
fourscore priests of the Lord, that were valiant men: 18 And
they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not
unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the Lord, but to the priests the sons
of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for
thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the Lord
God.
2 Chron 26:16-18 (KJV)
And he said, Go, and tell this
people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive
not. 10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears
heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their
ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.
Isaiah 6:9-10 (KJV)
I am the living bread which came down
from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the
bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the
world.
John 6:51 (KJV)
All the commandments which I command
thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in
and possess the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers. 2 And
thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty
years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what
was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. 3 And
he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which
thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know
that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth
out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live. 4 Thy raiment waxed not
old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years. 5 Thou
shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so
the Lord thy God chasteneth thee. 6 Therefore thou shalt keep the
commandments of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.
Deut 8:1-6 (KJV)
Ye have said, It is vain to serve
God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we
have walked mournfully before the Lord of hosts? 15 And now we call
the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that
tempt God are even delivered. 16 Then they that feared the Lord
spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a
book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and
that thought upon his name.
Mal 3:14-16 (KJV)
And they said one to another,
Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while
he opened to us the scriptures?
Luke 24:32 (KJV)
They profess that they know
God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and
unto every good work reprobate.
Titus 1:16 (KJV)
For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch
as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office: 14 If
by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and
might save some of them.
Romans 11:13-14 (KJV)
Now I beseech you, brethren, for the
Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive
together with me in your prayers to God for me; 31 That I
may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service
which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints; 32 That
I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed.
Romans 15:30-32 (KJV)
I commend unto you Phebe our sister,
which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea: 2 That ye
receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in
whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of
many, and of myself also.
Romans 16:1-2 (KJV)
Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers
in Christ Jesus: 4 Who have for my life laid down their own necks:
unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.
Romans 16:3-4 (KJV)
Now I beseech you, brethren, mark
them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have
learned; and avoid them. 18 For they that are such serve not our
Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches
deceive the hearts of the simple. 19 For your obedience is come
abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would
have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil. 20 And
the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our
Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
Romans 16:17-20 (KJV)
The elders which are among you I
exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and
also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 2 Feed the
flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by
constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither
as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. 4 And
when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that
fadeth not away.
1 Peter 5:1-4 (KJV)
“But you, be strong and do not let
your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded.”
2 Chronicles 15:7 NKJV
“Diligent hands will rule, but
laziness ends in slave labor.”
Prov 12:24
“The faithless will be fully repaid
for their ways, and the food man rewarded for his.”
Prov 14:14
“All hard work brings a profit, but
mere talk leads only to poverty.”
Prov 14:23
“He who fears the Lord has a secure
fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge.”
Prov 14:26
And say to Archippus, Take heed to
the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.
Col 4:17 (KJV)
For by grace are ye saved through
faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God
Eph 2:8 (KJV)
For we are his workmanship, created
in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should
walk in them.
Eph 2:10 (KJV)
Then the word of the Lord came unto
me, saying, 5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and
before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I
ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. 6 Then said I, Ah, Lord
GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. 7 But the
Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that
I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
Jer 1:4-7 (KJV)
Blessed is every one that
feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways. 2 For thou shalt eat
the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall
be well with thee. 3 Thy wife shall be as a fruitful
vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about
thy table. 4 Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that
feareth the Lord. 5 The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou
shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life. 6 Yea,
thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel.
Psalms 128:1-6 (KJV)
Except the Lord build the house, they
labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman
waketh but in vain. 2 It is vain for you to rise up
early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his
beloved sleep. 3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and
the fruit of the womb is his reward. 4 As arrows are
in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. 5 Happy
is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed,
but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
Psalms 127:1-5 (KJV)
My brethren, be not many masters,
knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
James 3:1 (KJV)
He becometh poor that dealeth with
a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. 5 He that
gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in
harvest is a son that causeth shame.
Prov 10:4-5 (KJV)
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye
stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye
know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
1 Cor 15:58 (KJV)
He that dwelleth in the secret place
of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Psalms 91:1 (KJV)
As every man hath received the gift, even
so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace
of God. 11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of
God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God
giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom
be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 4:10-11 (KJV)
Having then gifts differing according
to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy
according to the proportion of faith; 7 Or ministry, let us wait
on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; 8 Or
he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with
simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with
cheerfulness. 9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor
that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. 10 Be
kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one
another; 11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving
the Lord; 12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing
instant in prayer; 13 Distributing to the necessity of saints;
given to hospitality. 14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and
curse not. 15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them
that weep. 16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind
not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own
conceits. 17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things
honest in the sight of all men. 18 If it be possible, as much as
lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Dearly beloved,
avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is
written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. 20 Therefore
if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing
thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Be not overcome of
evil, but overcome evil with good.
Romans 12:6-21 (KJV)
But by the grace of God I am what I
am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I
laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which
was with me. 11 Therefore whether it were I or they, so we
preach, and so ye believed.
1 Cor 15:10-11 (KJV)
Buy the truth, and sell it
not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
Prov 23:23 (KJV)
I will sing of mercy and judgment:
unto thee, O Lord, will I sing. 2 I will behave myself wisely in a
perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a
perfect heart. 3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I
hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. 4 A
froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person. 5 Whoso
privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high
look and a proud heart will not I suffer. 6 Mine eyes shall be
upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in
a perfect way, he shall serve me. 7 He that worketh deceit shall
not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight. 8 I
will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked
doers from the city of the Lord.
Psalms 101:1-8 (KJV)
Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to
be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12 Let
not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the
lusts thereof. 13 Neither yield ye your members as
instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as
those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of
righteousness unto God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over
you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
Romans 6:11-14 (KJV)
That which we have seen and heard
declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our
fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And
these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
1 John 1:3-4 (KJV)
For in Christ Jesus neither
circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. 16 And
as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and
upon the Israel of God.
Gal 6:15-16 (KJV)
For Christ also hath once suffered
for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to
death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 19 By which also
he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 20 Which sometime
were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of
Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were
saved by water. 21 The like figure whereunto even baptism
doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the
answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ
1 Peter 3:18-21 (KJV)
I write unto you, little children,
because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.
1 John 2:12 (KJV)
Herein is love, not that we loved
God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for
our sins.
1 John 4:10 (KJV)
Thou wilt shew me the path of life:
in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are
pleasures for evermore.
Psalms 16:11 (KJV)
I have set the Lord always before me:
because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Psalms 16:8 (KJV)
If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And
I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may
abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom
the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye
know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
John 14:15-17 (KJV)
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It
is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will
not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And
when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of
judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of
righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of
judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. 12 I have yet
many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13 Howbeit
when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he
shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he
speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me:
for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 15 All
things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of
mine, and shall shew it unto you.
John 16:7-15 (KJV)
I will remember the works of the
Lord: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. 12 I will meditate
also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. 13 Thy way, O God, is
in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God? 14 Thou
art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among
the people. 15 Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people
Psalms 77:11-15 (KJV)
Beloved, now are we the sons of God,
and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall
appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 3 And
every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
1 John 3:2-3 (KJV)
Brethren, I count not myself to have
apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things
which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I
press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Phil 3:13-14 (KJV)
But seek ye first the kingdom of God,
and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Matt 6:33 (KJV)
