The Influence of Music

The Influence of Music

As I am writing this section, the Lord reminded me of the importance of music. Music, affects our souls and even our spirit. If you study rock music and all the popular music today, you would be appalled at the effects it has had. As Kevin Swanson points out in his book Apostate, after listening to popular Marilyn Manson, young men have gone out and murdered people. In Sex, Love, & Romance by Hugh Pyle, he points out that often times at rock concerts, nudity and sexual immorality take place because of the demonic atmosphere. The Bible mentions several examples which I will list below on the effect of music. Israel, when Moses went up for the first 40 days to get the Ten Commandments, played wild music and engaged in sexual immorality. The wicked king Saul, had music played to sooth him when an evil spirit came to torment him. David praised God with a loud and joyful noise. The point is, music has profound influence on you. Be very, very careful what music you feed yourself with.

Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. 8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. 1 Corinthians 10:7-8 (KJV)

And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play. Exodus 32:6 (KJV)

And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp. 18 And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome: but the noise of them that sing do I hear. 19 And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount. 20 And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it. Exodus 32:17-20 (KJV)

And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him. 1 Samuel 16:23 (KJV)

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. 2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Psalms 100:1-2 (KJV)

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 Psalms 100:4-5 (KJV)
