Scriptures
for The Timothy Commission
Watch ye, stand fast in the faith,
quit you like men, be strong. Let all your things be done with charity. I
beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the
firstfruits of Achaia, and that
they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,) That ye submit
yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpeth with us, and laboureth.
1 Corinthians 16:13-16 (KJV)
Flee also youthful lusts: but follow
righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a
pure heart. 23 But
foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. 24 And
the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25 In
meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will
give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And
that they may recover
themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his
will.
2 Timothy 2:22-26 (KJV)
For the grace of God that bringeth
salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying
ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly,
in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious
appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who
gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto
himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. 15 These things
speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
Titus 2:11-15 (KJV)
If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning
fiery furnace, and he will deliver us
out of thine hand, O king. 18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O
king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou
hast set up.
Dan 3:17-18 (KJV)
And beside this, giving all
diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And
to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7 And
to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For
if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be
barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But
he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath
forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 10 Wherefore the rather,
brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do
these things, ye shall never fall: 11 For so an entrance shall be
ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and
Saviour Jesus Christ.
Paul takes special care to remind Titus, knowing that his
death is at hand
12 Wherefore I will not be
negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the
present truth. 13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this
tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you
in remembrance; 14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord
Jesus Christ hath shewed me. 15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may
be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
He warns them to be constant in the faith of Christ, the
true Son of God
16 For we have not followed
cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of
our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For
he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice
to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well
pleased. 18 And
this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy
mount. 19 We
have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed,
as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day
star arise in your hearts: 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy
of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy
came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
2 Peter 1:5-21 (KJV)
The Lord
is far from the wicked: but he
heareth the prayer of the righteous. 30 The light of the eyes
rejoiceth the heart: and a good
report maketh the bones fat. 31 The ear that heareth the reproof of
life abideth among the wise. 32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth
his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding. 33 The
fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and
before honour is humility.
Prov 15:29-33 (KJV)
