We know from the Scriptures that women had
earrings, necklaces, etc… Rebecca was given a nose ring when the servant came
to get her for Isaac, but we clearly see that ornaments are not to be a woman’s
focus on making herself beautiful, but rather cultivating a gentle and quiet
spirit which is of great worth in God’s sight. In addition, tattoos were
strictly forbidden.
In like manner also, that women
adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with
broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10 But (which becometh women
professing godliness) with good works. 1 Timothy 2:9-10 (KJV)
Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own
husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won
