Simplicity in Christ

For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

2 Cor 11:2-3 (KJV)

Paul had a proper fear for the church in Corinth—he had labored hard to present her to Christ pure and spotless, free from defilement as a virgin to Jesus Christ our Lord and did not want to see her cast off the simplicity which is in Christ for something else which will corrupt. The truth is that Jesus offers us a new life of childlike Faith—it is simple in that sense; not complex and burdensome. But many search for something more—they want a law. They want to enforce dietary law, circumcision, a certain form of baptism or something else as a requirement. O may we, like the Corinthians, cling to the simplicity that is in Christ and not fall prey to other things.
