21 Days of Remembrance

Abraham’s Lack and its Results

Read Genesis 12, 15-16, & 21:1-7; Isaiah 40:31 (in the King James Version)

Prayer: God, please guard my steps, give me the strength not to stray from Your plan, even if it seems like the right thing to do because of circumstances and impatience. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

God did not “mess up” choosing Abraham to be given the promise of a son in his old age and the privilege of being the ancestor of Israel and the Church. Abraham was the one, God knew that and that is why God chose him. But like many people, Abraham gave into the temptation of lust and impatience and was duly punished for his haste with a son born out-of-wedlock: Ishmael. Please trust God and wait on His promises! It is often not the easiest thing to do so, but it is the right thing. Remember not to try to hurry God along! If you do, others will be affected and so will you. Disobedience brings punishment; however, obedience brings blessing (Deut. 28).

Another Point

Dear readers, take Abraham’s story as a warning that our lack of remembrance and waiting when we impatiently try to hurry God along and stop waiting for His promises affects both ourselves and others. If God has promised you something, remember to be patient. If you are struggling with patience, just hold on one moment at a time. Wait for God and remember His promises!
